Scotsman Scale the Heights at Sensient
Hubbard Ice Systems the UK distributors for Scotsman Ice Making Machines has supplied Sensient Food Colors UK Ltd, the global leader in food and beverage color products and technologies with a Scotsman MF56 modular ice flaker for its UK manufacturing facility at King’s Lynn. The machine was to be a replacement for an existing Scotsman MF51 ice-maker which had given 12 years continuous service.
The installation of the ice-maker called for a head for heights with the unit sited atop a 40 foot production tower within Sensient’s food colors manufacturing unit with ice being delivered by a gravity chute to the production line.
The MF56 flaker Modular Superflake ice machine was ideal for Sensient’s requirement, producing up to 600 kg of high quality flake ice in 24 hours and featuring a specially strengthened alloy ice breaker allowing for greater extrusion pressure, resulting in an exceptionally dry ice which is ideal for the food colorant manufacturing industry.
The standard MF56 specification includes a Hermetic compressor with air-cooled condensers, a stainless steel auger and freezing cylinder (evaporator), electronic control board, long-lasting stainless steel ball-bearings and double protection – electronic rotation sensor and drive coupling -on gear motor and gear reducer.
The MF56 is finished in scotch-brite protected stainless steel side panels with rounded corners for enhanced ease of cleaning and safety, making it purpose built for the clean environments required for manufacturing food colors and dyes.
Adcock Refrigeration, King’s Lynn, specified and installed the MF56 with the technical assistance of the Hubbard Ice System’s Technical Department.

The compact dimensions of the MF56 production unit went some way to alleviating the problem of accessibility and its robust construction and reputation for durability means that, with planned maintenance, the unit is expected to have a significant working life span, which will minimise further disruption to Sentient’s production unit”.
