Scotsman developed CO2 Ice Flaker launches following successful European trials with Carrefour

15/06/2010

Scotsman Ice Systems have announced the launch of its first high efficiency CO2 Ice Flaker based on its popular MF 58 Split model. The system has been successfully trialled in Toulouse, south of France in conjunction with one of Europe's leading environmentally aware supermarket chains the Carrefour Group.

Carrefour have extensive knowledge of CO2 refrigeration systems and the Scotsman MF 58 is designed to 'plug and play' with their existing CO2 cascade refrigeration systems. Carrefour has a stated commitment to convert 700 of its Europe wide stores to CO2 systems.

Chris Davis, Commercial Director of Hubbard Ice Systems, UK Distributors for Scotsman Ice Systems says; ''The launch of the first Scotsman CO2 ice flaker marks a major turning point in modern ice making technology, traditional HFC refrigerants can be several thousand times more powerful than CO2 in terms of their global warming potential (GWP). CO2 is the ‘Green’ future and its use is going to have a major effect on the UK ice making industry, already Waitrose have a commitment to roll out HFC free refrigeration in all new stores and major refurbishments, TESCO plans to reduce leakage and introduce HFC free refrigeration in 150 stores by 2012 and is pioneering the use of HFC free systems in developing countries, whilst M&S has installed CO2 based systems in 13 stores”.

The CO2 Scotsman MF58 Split system has an 16% increased production capacity, compared to a traditional MF58 using HFC refrigerant, of up to 700 Kg/24 hrs of high quality flake ice extruded at a temperature just below zero degrees. Flake Ice offers the best solution for maintaining refrigerated perishables where long-lasting freshness and natural appearance need to be guaranteed and is ideal for Supermarket displays.

The CO2 Scotsman MF58 Split system is highly flexible and can be incorporated with a range of flaked ice delivery carts or automated delivery systems and storage bins.

Chris Davis comments; ''I would be delighted to share our Carrefour CO2 ice making experience with any of the UK's retailers, this is such an important development in environmentally responsible ice making that both Hubbard Ice Systems and Scotsman will be pleased to bring our knowledge to the UK market place''.
