Hubbard Ice Helps Students Make The Grade and Learn The Trade
Hubbard Ice Systems, the UK distributor of worldwide brand leading Scotsman Ice Machines, has donated a Scotsman ACM 55 under-counter gourmet (supercube) ice-making machine to Dudley College in the West Midlands. The machine will be used in the college's Construction department to aid City & Guilds Refrigeration and Air Conditioning students.
The students will use the machine to learn about installation practice, electrics, health and safety and the safe handling of refrigerants.
Dennis Mason M.Inst.R., Lecturer in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning at Dudley College is delighted with the machine, saying: "Through their work on the Scotsman the students have really gained an understanding of the mechanics of an ice-making machine. Before we did a lot more theory work and worked on small components, which is all good and well but there's nothing like practical, hands-on experience to aid learning. The donation of this machine by Hubbard Ice has been a godsend"
Mr Mason believes that training young people in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineering is of the utmost importance. He says that: "It is essential young people are encouraged to train in this specialist trade in order to maintain a high level of skilled workers.
"Without regular maintenance ice making machines will not only become unhygienic but can also become less effective and less energy efficient, thus being more harmful to the environment."
Scotsman machines are designed for ease of use and maintenance, and in keeping with the ethos of total perfection of service, Hubbard Ice Systems offer full hygiene training and support for users of Scotsman machines in order to maintain the highest quality of ice between servicing. In fact, Scotsman gourmet supercubes are chosen by the Diageo ESP (Every Serve Perfect) Team for the perfect presentation of their premium brands, maximising sales through repeat purchase.
Scotsman ice-making machines are also remarkably energy efficient. The day-to-day running costs of the machines offer the potential for significant savings with the benefit of a notably lower carbon footprint. The requirement for better quality, fresher ice in larger volumes at the point of sale has become more and more important with the continued success of the Magners effect, driving a premium market by encouraging consumers to serve Cider and Perry over ice.
Chris Davis, Commercial Director of Hubbard Ice Systems says: "At Hubbard Ice we are taking our environmental responsibilities extremely seriously, after all Scotsman is the World's leading brand amongst icemakers and that brings a level of accountability that we have assumed as the brand's distributors in the UK."
All Scotsman machines are fully compliant with the Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS), Lead Free directive as well as the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) regulations and Water Regulations Advisory Scheme (WRAS).
Chris Davis adds: "We are delighted to have been able to help the students at Dudley College by donating the Scotsman machine as, like Mr Mason, we can see the importance of training young people to work in our industry. I hope that it gets good use for years to come and, who knows, we may well employ some of his students in the not so distant future."
