Hubbard Launches New Versions of Scotsman MAR Industrial Ice Machines

17/05/2007

Upgrades deliver ultimate reliability - whatever the conditions

  • New Safety Monitors & Relays
  • Split & Compact Models
  • Up to 2,465kg of scale ice per day
  • Fresh or sea water

Hubbard Ice Systems has launched upgraded versions of its Scotsman MAR range of industrial scale ice machines. The new MAR icemakers, available in both compact and split models, have production rates of up to 2,465kg of scale ice per day and are designed specifically for commercial and industrial applications. Hubbard offers both freshwater and seawater versions.

The new upgrades are mostly associated with the MAR controls and are designed to enhance safety and machine reliability. "These machines are often expected to work in extreme conditions - including onboard trawlers in the North Atlantic," explains Hubbard Technical Manager Trevor Fellowes. "The upgrades will protect the machine from accidental damage and will make MAR one of the most reliable units on the market, whatever the application"

The units feature a new 3-Phase monitoring relay, fitted to the control circuit to ensure the unit is connected correctly to the power supply. There is also a start delay relay on the compressor and a stop delay relay on the drum. These help protect the MAR from damage due to accidental start-up or shutdown, by adding 18-minute delays. Meanwhile the new evaporator speed and direction monitor is designed to ensure the drum rotates correctly, automatically shutting down if it senses a freeze-up or other mechanical damage.

Scale ice is traditionally used by the fishing industry but is increasingly applied in a wide variety of industries, from food processing to pharmaceuticals manufacture. Hubbards MAR units offer users a comprehensive choice: the six compact (integral) units have production rates of from 426kg to 2450kg per day, whilst the five split units (featuring evaporators designed to work with a centralised refrigeration plant or remote condensing units) produce from 570kg to 2465kg per day.

MAR machines are manufactured using food-grade stainless steel. For onboard installations, Hubbard offers corrosion resistant AISI316 stainless steel models and a water distribution system designed to cope with rough sea conditions.
