Industrial-Ice-ation: Hubbard Ice Systems Supersizes RAC 2005

Plus: Visitors to get 'up close' with an Eve, Stand F104, RAC 2005, NEC March 1-3, 2005.

Ice is used in ever increasing amounts by industry, not only in the traditional areas of transport and storage, but also as an ingredient to cool a variety of mixing processes, from food through chemicals and textiles to construction.

So it's no surprise that Hubbard Ice Systems will focus on industrial ice machines at RAC 2005. One undoubted star of the Show will be a Scotsman Eve 2000 evaporator, especially brought in for the Show. The huge drum has a special slanting stand, allowing visitors to see the mechanism inside.

Hubbard only launched this new range of scale icemakers in 2004, so this is the first RAC show where visitors will be able to get 'up close and personal' with an Eve. The range has production capacities up to 24,000 kg per day and Eve models are available in a choice of configurations, including compact or 'split' models, water or air-cooled. For the fishing industry there are both land-based and onboard models using fresh or sea water to produce ice. All Eves are based around high performance static vertical evaporators with rotating blades, delivering top quality scale ice.

Another 'supersized' machine on display is the Scotsman MF82, a 'superflaker' that produces 2300Kg of flake ice per day. One of Hubbard's most popular ranges for industrial and retail applications, especially in the food and fishing industries, MF flakers are modular and are designed to be mounted over a separate ice storage bin or, with larger models like the MF82, directly over a cold room.

Superflake ice from the Scotsman MF82 is small and irregular in shape, melts evenly and is produced at sub-zero temperatures, making it ideal for fish, meat and vegetables, for storage, transport and display.

If its 'scale-ice-action' you're after, check out the Scotsman MAR55: a fully operating model will be on the Hubbard stand, mounted over an M300 ice storage bin. The MAR55 is Hubbard's smallest Scotsman scale ice machine, having a maximum production 380kg per day of thin scale ice, or 426kg of thick. It is particularly suitable for use in the retail sector - for example, Safeway specified Scotsman MAR55s to supply scale ice for in-store fish displays. The retailer mounted its units over Follet ITS500 units, easily manoeuvrable ice storage bins on wheels.

Alongside the industrial models Hubbard will also show two of its innovative 'hands-free' ice machines, which are popular in the hotel and hospital markets. They are the TC180, which dispenses cubelets of ice and chilled water, and the CD40, which makes the 'gourmet' Supercube. The hands-free operation of both machines makes them ideal for any site where health and hygiene are paramount, from hospital wards to self-service ice stations in hotel corridors.
