Miners Turn the Heat Up on Scotsman for the Second Time in a Year

Europe’s second deepest mine operated by ICL Fertilizers at Boulby, North Yorkshire has commissioned another Scotsman Modular cube ice maker and insulated bin system to support the 0.6 Tonnes of Scotsman ice production it installed just six months ago.

The initial installation of two Scotsman MC 46 Modular Supercubers, was so successful that miners at the 200-hectare site on the northeast coast of the North York Moors, increased their consumption of ice, keeping them cool at the mine face.

Europe’s second deepest mine operated by ICL Fertilizers at Boulby, North Yorkshire has commissioned Two Scotsman Modular cube ice makers and insulated bin systems to produce up to 0.6 Tonnes of supercube ice each day.

The 200-hectare (490-acre) site run by Cleveland Potash, located just southeast of the village of Boulby, on the northeast coast of the North York Moors in Redcar and Cleveland, is 1,400 metres (4,600 ft) deep and produces half of the UK's output of potash for use in agricultural fertilizer. The mine also produces rock salt as a by-product that is used as a de-icing agent on roads in winter conditions.

The recent £30m refurbishment of the St Ermin's Hotel, at St James's in London with an individual, stylish new look and ambience for its new owners, Amerimar Holdings is now complete with the installation of Scotsman ice makers and dispensers on each floor.

The transformation brings a personal, elegant design approach to a sympathetic restoration of this Grade II listed Victorian landmark property, just a minute’s walk from St James' Park. With over 300 rooms set over five floors St Ermin’s has now installed four Scotsman CD40 ice stations to provide guests with hygienic, hands-free ice supplies. At the more specialised end of the ice making spectrum, the touch-free Ice Dispenser dispenses Supercubes without the need for human contact.




Scotsman Supports Welsh Food Hygiene Ratings Bill

Scotsman Ice Systems are supporting the principle of the proposed Food Hygiene Rating (Wales) Bill, which started its consultation period on 14th December 2011.

The bill which ends its public consultation period on the 7th of March 2012 proposes to make the existing voluntary scheme, mandatory. The Proposal would see places where consumers eat out (including restaurants, takeaways, mobile caterers, cafés, hotels, pubs, schools, hospitals and residential care homes) as well as places where the consumer shops for food (such as supermarkets, bakeries, and delicatessens) having to display their official Hygiene score.
